If you have ever tried build a application with a lot of components is really painful. Sure that using patterns, proper design and ultimately tools helps a lot; in fact is the basics to be success with that.

But apart from that we need to try, to see, to feel if it works. For those that can learn with their own mistakes the life could be harder but at the end pays off; but in a world that we don’t want to recreat the wheel good examples out there are always handy.

Nick Boldt presents a serie divided in 4 parts (actually the last one is still in coming) to how they faced the build of the boss Tools. It is interesting to see the original problem and how it get solved.

You will see that they are using Maven, but don’t get stuck on that. Read for the example and not to see the used tools, remember that the concept is important, the tool is just a tool.
